Monday

Scripture lesson: 1 Corinthians 12:1-6 “My gift is better than than your gift”

Time to reflect: This is the beginning of a three chapter attempt by Paul to bring arguments about gifts and church offices under control. Without directly telling anyone to sit down and shut up we wants to put these discussions to rest and help them see the bigger picture of serving God. He start with this passage (which actually extends to verse 11) pointing out that all “gifts” come from the same Spirit and therefore are equivalent, if different. Every church should study these chapters annually.

Moving Through The Day: Think about your church involvement. Does it have to only be “important” tasks? Do you view your activities as “more important” than others? Do you find yourself wishing you had some other “gift?” Pray a prayer of thanksgiving for whatever you have to offer God.

Spiritual Gifts

1Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

4There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.
